The primary purpose of this position is t perform pharmacy technician duties and assist the pharmacist in the processing and dispensing of prescriptions for both regular
and
scheduled medications.
·
Receives and reviews individual prescriptions to determine kind, strength, and dosage of drug to be dispensed.
Must
consider
pharmacy policy limitations and
instruc! tions
on the order
.
·
Performs the full range of bulk compounding for the pharmacy. Follows standardized formulas a
nd procedures in
weighing, measuring, and mixing bulk quantities of routinely used pharmaceuticals, e.g., solutions, ointments, powders, etc.
·
Works in
intravenous
additive solution area and performs sterile solution operations. Receives and reviews orders received for intravenous additive solutions and checks
with
pharmacist
if
incomplete orders or other discrepancies are noted.
·
Maintains and controls pharmaceutical and associated su
pplies.
Periodically inventories stock of pharmaceuticals
and
other supplies; prepares requisitions
to
ensure established stock levels are properly maintained.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
At least one (1) year of specialized e! xperience at the next lower grade (GS-04) or equivalent.
Specialized experience must include
experience gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories. Experience must have provided a basic knowledge of, pharmaceutical nomenclature; characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals; pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; and the variety of procedures and techniques involved in the care, storage, repackaging, bulk compounding, and distribution of pharmaceuticals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of an extensive body of pharmaceuticals, pharmacy practices, pharmaceutical rules, procedures, regulations, and operations to perform a variety
of
complex
technical
functions.
2. Knowledge of standard procedures and techniques involved
in
repackaging drugs and supplies; bulk compounding; receipt, storage, care, and distribution of pharmaceuticals; and preparation of certain sterile solutions.
3.
Knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature; characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals
;
pharmaceutical systems
of weights
and measures; and operation and care of pharmacy equipment.
4.
Skill
in
operation of a wide
variety
of
pharmacy equipment
to
measure, weigh, and mix ingredients.
5
.
Ability to perform
pharmaceutical
calculations relating to drug quantities
and
dosages.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

:
Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
